I am UmberDove.

And by that, I mean an artist.  One who hears stories in the wind, who paints because it is what her soul tells her to do, who smiths because the muse moves through her fingertips, who loves nothing more than the promise of an unexplored trail, the sound of the ocean in her ears, and scent of a serious cup of coffee.

Listy listed in the shop...

Which brings me to say this:
Thank you.
YES,
YOU.
For looking, for seeing, for considering the work of my hands, for communing with me what you see in it, for supporting this path I tread in SO MANY different ways.  Art becomes intrinsically richer when shared.

You are the cherry on top.
A big, homegrown, brandy-soaked, crimson red cherry sitting tip top.

None of that maraschino formaldehyde business.
Here's to the waning hours of our weekend!

A Bird in the Hand

UmberDove

Good Noon to you!
I'm not quite ready to admit that the morning has passed, but clearly the clock is reading afternoon, and therefore almost cheese-and-apples-hour.

I've been working this week on my 2011 art show schedule - very exciting things in the works! - details to come as the times approach!  In the meantime, I will be offering a selection of my works in les ol' Etsy shop for a limited engagement.  Some of these works you may have seen, some had been offered only as prints in the past, and some are brand spanking new.  The paintings below are the first; I'll be slowly adding to the shop over the weekend starting now!

In other news, BC is taking me out tonight for the Official Celebratory Dinner and Drinks and Hot Tubs!  I plan on lounging in a steamy cedar tub under the open skies with a full belly and a contented heart, letting the music of rain fall on my shorn head.

The Things We Shed, Weekend One

UmberDove

I've been painting.
Sliding brushes heavy with oil.
Dripping with translucent turpenoid.

Would you like to see?
It feels so good I could cry.
This painting, which I've been calling "The Things We Shed," has been waiting for the last six months.  I stretched the canvas over barren bars and laid down the initial ground layer of color right before I began chemotherapy last Summer.  I thought I knew what she would look like then, I thought I knew what "shedding" was about.  But then the toxins hit my system and the faintest whiff of paint sent me spiraling into severe nausea.  I tried to work, believe me, but with zero success or tolerance.  So the oils were packed away, out of the studio, and she sat quietly on the easel.  Waiting.  Developing into pages and pages of writings.  Into twenty different sketches, none of which was quite right.  But the whole time she was about shedding.  And she was patient.

Then last week, driving down the road with the most mundane of errands to do, I saw her.  In a flash of inspiration that could only be attributed to the divine, I knew what she needed, what imagery must be laid down.  What life, what death, what regeneration, what decay needed to be born.  I quite literally dived off the side of the road and marched into the closest cafe.  I ordered a tea latté and drew.
And drew.
And drew some more.
I've a long way to go on this piece, but that flame in my chest is burning bright, illuminating the path.

Winners in the Land of Marmal-Milk and Honey

I'm happy to report that lemon marmalade has made its appearance on my plate every day in this last week. Including the last 20 minutes wherein I finally made myself breakfast after waking waaaaaaaay too late and running out the door to my morning radiation appointment without even brushing my hair.  HEE!  (ok, so yes, there has been no hair to brush for months and months, but I had you for a second, didn't I?  Plus, I'm *nearing* full coverage up there, as the stubble is thickening up to a downy soft SHAVED HEAD LOOK.  I'll have my mohawk back in no time!).
Mmmnn... yee haw!
Back to the matter at hand.
Which is lemony goodness and three lucky ladies.

So upon arriving home and filling said belly, I utilized random.com, that old trusty friend and came up with three numbers, leading me to three names, which will ultimately lead me to three packages mailed out with California lovin'.

That said, will commenters 8, 17, and 33 please step forward?  Or if you don't feel like counting,

HUZZAH!
After reading ALL of your comments, I wished SO very much that I could send every last one of you a jar of liquid gold!  Thank you endlessly for taking the time to enter - you've made these jamming fingers itch for water baths and fruit by the bushel!  So much so, that I do think come summer fruiting season, the giveaways may need to continue...

But for today,
I'm feeling the need to mix paint.
What would you feel about a little sea stone shop update tomorrow, Wednesday the 9th, say around 12:00 pm PST?  Yesterday this jackrabbit sprung from my paintbrushes with a stamp of fuzzy toes and a twitch of elegant ears to join the warren I've been creating.  I truly can not stop.  And truly, I don't want to.

If this jackrabbit full of sight belongs to you, I'd be happy to reserve her - just drop me an Etsy convo right here.

Off to get painty!
